The Pope County Museum is pleased to announce the addition of Brent Gulsvig to our staff! Brent will be our receptionist and archivist in charge of additions to our extensive family history files. The Gulsvig family has deep roots in Pope County. Brent and Lisa Gulsvig own and operate Gulsvig Productions in Glenwood. Brent also originated the Glenwood Minnesota Remembered Facebook page. Their family collection of Pope County images is extensive and community comments on this page have added to our knowledge of the area. Brent’s experience extends well beyond our borders though. He has a broadcasting degree from Lake Superior College in Duluth and 18 years of television broadcast experience. We rely on news reporters to document history “in the moment” and are pleased to have Brent’s experienced eye help us capture history in Pope County.
This position is funded in full by a generous gift from David M. Larson. David graduated from Glenwood High School in 1962. He enjoyed a four-decade career with Cargill, Inc., until retiring in 2010. He first started with the company in 1966, holding several managerial positions before being elected a division vice president in 1981. He then became president of Cargill’s feed division in 1983 and in 1995, was named president of the Animal Nutrition and Poultry Group.
In 1999, Larson was elected executive vice president and named to Cargill’s Corporate Leadership Team, the core executive group in charge of Cargill’s overall strategy, growth and funding. He was elected to the company’s Board of Directors in 2006.
David Larson received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota, where he is still active. He was elected to the university’s Board of Regents in 2005 and is serving his second six-year term. He also serves on the Board of the University of Minnesota Foundation and the Minnesota Historical Society’s Executive Council. An advocate of helping young people get a college education, he founded and serves as president of The David and Janis Larson Foundation.
The Pope County Historical Society is grateful for Mr. Larson’s gift. By adding a staff member especially in charge of indexing news, our extensive family history files are enhanced and perpetuated. Current events will continue to be documented for future reference and research. Brent Gulsvig’s knowledge of local families will also enhance the service we are able to provide to genealogy visitors.
Stop by to greet Brent and welcome him to the Pope County Museum family!
