The Pope County Museum has a large collection of three-dimensional objects, the vast majority of which have been donated by generous members of the community.
In 2007, we began conducting a comprehensive inventory of the collection. Each item is cleaned, researched, photographed, and added to an electronic database. The goal is that eventually every object and photo in the museum will be in the database so researchers can find items appropriate to the person, time period, event, organization or theme they are researching. The database will also contain condition information and notes on the item’s location within the museum.
So far we have processed around 2,000 items. We have a long way to go, but the database has already proved its usefulness.
